If you were lucky enough to receive a new iPad for Christmas you may be wondering how you can use it to enhance your productivity at work. There are many business apps around and a rummage through the App Store is always a worthwhile exercise. If your business uses SMART technology such as SMART interactive white boards the one app you definitely need to download is the SMART BridgitTM Conferencing app … because it will allow you to join in virtual conferences using your iPad.
What is Bridgit?
SMART BridgitTM conferencing software has been developed by SMART Technologies to allow businesses to expand their SMART virtual conferencing network at very little cost. Any business using SMART boards or other SMART collaboration technologies can install the Bridgit software and then invite anyone to join virtual conferences via their PC, whether they are based on the premises or further afield. Bridgit integrates with Microsoft Outlook and Exchange so participants can be invited by email and they simply need to click a link to join – they don’t need to install any software. Once connected, the host can share their desktop to show websites, presentations and documents, and participants can work collaboratively by writing on the desktop image. Bridgit works alongside SMART Meeting Pro to offer additional interactive whiteboard tools, and participants can even use webcams to share voice and video.
How to use an iPad with Bridgit
At present it’s not possible to join Bridgit-supported conferences on an iPad by clicking the link in the invite, but the Bridgit Conferencing app does give you access. The iPad app allows you to create and join conferences and you can password-protect them so unauthorised users can’t join. The iPad app does lack some of the functionality of the full version – for example, you can’t currently share your own data or use the video or audio features – but you can view multiple shared screens and highlight and write on the display. There is also a built-in instant messenger system so you can communicate with the other participants. The app works over both Wifi and 3G so you can join conferences wherever you are, and it doesn’t matter whether the conference is being hosted over the Internet or a private network. The app is free to download, making it a cost-effective way for anyone who travels frequently or works from home to connect with the office.
Smarter Interactive has a managed conference service called Smarter Conference, which includes Bridgit and allows iPad access to virtual conferences. To find out more and arrange a free 30 day trial click here.
