Our speed of communication has improved dramatically and I can ensure important messages are displayed across both buildings on the site almost instantaneously. It means that we can have our briefings by data conferencing, which adds to the flow of inteligence.

Using SMART Boards for global collaboration in manufacturing

While the majority of manufacturing now takes place the Far East, there is still a requirement for global collaboration in the manufacturing industry. Communication can be difficult when the design and development teams are based in the UK and the manufacturing plant is on the other side of the world. And while video conferencing is commonplace in manufacturing, trying to explain the fine details of a product or determine the cause of a fault verbally is not ideal, and can slow down the production process, lead to defects in products or increase the budget. By using SMART Boards for global collaboration in manufacturing, it becomes a far smoother, more productive process.

Using SMART Boards to work on documents, notes and designs.
SMART Boards are compatible with any Windows or Mac software so there are no restrictions over the type of application you can view and annotate on the board. For example, using a SMART Board you can open an AutoCad file and let everyone participating in the session see the image, highlight specific features or add notes. The entire meeting can be recorded and distributed later so everyone has the same set of notes to work from.

Using Bridget and SMART Boards for global collaboration in manufacturing anywhere, any time
While SMART Boards are becoming more widely used in the board room, their use is not restricted to the office. Mobile devices such as Podiums are another option, or by using SMART Bridgit software you can access a SMART Board session from your computer, tablet or even smartphone, and still view the action and add notes in real time. It’s not always possible or within the budget to install SMART Boards everywhere you need them but these other options make global collaboration much easier and within the reach of every manufacturer.

Use visualisers to view components in detail
One of the biggest problems for manufacturing is diagnosing component faults. For example, if a part has been designed in the UK and manufactured in China but it doesn’t seem to work as expected it’s almost impossible to find the fault verbally or worse, in email – even if you can send images and diagrams. By combining a visualiser with a SMART  Board you can share real time images of the component and zoom in to see all the detail in order to diagnose the problem. And as with any application run on the SMART Board, you can add notes and diagrams, share the session and refer to it at a later date.
