Sales growth represents a phenomenal leap since the boards hit the market in 2005 when only three countries shipped more than 10,000 units each. In 2009, 12 countries passed that milestone.

At least one in six classrooms worldwide are projected to have interactive whiteboards installed by 2012 and with an estimate of 31 million classrooms, that’s about 5 million whiteboards sold.

The figures come from a strategic report looking at the interactive whiteboard market across 66 countries by consultants Futuresource.

Smart Boards account for 50% of all interactive whiteboards sold in the UK.
