Our speed of communication has improved dramatically and I can ensure important messages are displayed across both buildings on the site almost instantaneously. It means that we can have our briefings by data conferencing, which adds to the flow of inteligence. James Henrey, CEO

piccadillyPeople in the know often confuse buyers who don’t have an in-depth technology background with buzzwords and phrases about digital signage.

If you’ve heard the term but don’t understand what it means, some of the digital signage basics are explained here:

What is digital signage?

The simple answer is a messaging system that delivers audiovisual content via a screen. You can find out more on our digital signage web page.

What sort of audiovisual content can be displayed?

It depends on where you are. Digital signage is a huge market sector covering everything from outdoor displays at concerts and places like Times Square, New York or Piccadilly Circus, London.

You often see digital signage on the move, in taxis, buses, trains and planes as well as in stores and offices.

The signage delivers advertising, news, weather, travel information or real-time TV.

In most cases, digital signage use is only limited by your imagination.

Can I have a display for staff as well as the public?

Yes. A network can have zones that display different information to different audiences and to a schedule.

Some networks have a screen in reception or waiting areas delivering sales and product information to visitors, while other staff-facing screens behind the scenes update them with more private business information.

Is digital signage expensive?

This depends on your point of view. It’s a fact that consumer technology like mobile phones, the iPod and Nintendo DS have made the key parts like hard drives and screens smaller and more effective, so technology advances are driving down the costs of digital signage.

For instance large flat screen TVs that deliver the digital signage content have dropped massively in price over the past 18 months or so.

Why can’t my signage be a presentation looped on a computer screen?

It can and the early versions mostly were delivered this way. Now, software and delivery is more sophisticated and effective, with split screens showing multiple messages simultaneously.
